چکیده

Abstract We have developed and successfully tested a low-pressure Time Projection Chamber (TPC) with Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) readout for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS). AMS facility in Novosibirsk has problem of separating isobar ions different chemical elements that the same atomic mass. The typical example is radioactive isotopes 10 Be B are used to date geological objects at time scale ten million years. To solve this problem, new ion identification technique, namely based on measuring both track ranges energies TPCs GEM readout, been developed. This technique proposed be applied dating objects, geochronology Cenozoic era. In work, we larger version TPC dedicated thin silicon nitride window an efficient passage ions. characteristics were studied isobutane low pressures using alpha particle sources. addition, use instead THGEM shown substantially improve energy resolution nominal pressure (50 torr). Using these results SRIM code simulations, it isobaric boron beryllium can effectively separated AMS, providing will near future.

TPC Performance in Magnetic Fields with GEM and Pad Readout

A novel charged particle tracking device, a high precision time projection chamber with gas electron multiplier and pad readout, is a leading candidate as the central tracker for an experiment at the International Linear Collider. To characterize the performance of such a system, a small TPC has been operated within a magnetic field, measuring cosmic-ray and laser tracks. Good tracking resoluti...

A TPC with Triple-GEM Gas Amplification and TimePix Readout

We present measurements with a GEM based TPC prototypes and the TimePix CMOS ASIC as charge collecting anode. Tests with a small prototype were performed in a 5GeV electron beam at DESY. It is shown that the point resolution for short drift distances is better than 20 μm. The achieved time resolution is better than 10 ns at 100MHz clock frequency. Furthermore, experimental studies with an enlar...

R&d on the Gem Readout of the Tesla Tpc

Studies for the TESLA TPC (Time Projection Chamber) with GEM (Gas Electron Multiplier) readout at DESY/Hamburg University are presented. Two test chamber setups are being operated. The studies include basic GEM performance, tracking and the determination of the resolution using different pad sizes and geometries. Our measurements show that chevron shaped pads lead to a better point resolution c...

A large volume Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is being considered for the central charged particle tracker for the detector for the proposed International Linear Col-lider (ILC). To meet the ILC-TPC spatial resolution challenge of ∼ 100 µm with a manageable number of readout pads and channels of electronics, Micro Pattern Gas Detectors (MPGD) are being developed which could use pads comparable i...

Measurement of Ultra-Low Potassium Contaminations with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry

Levels of trace radiopurity in active detector materials is a subject of major concern in low-background experiments. Among the radio-isotopes, K is one of the most abundant and yet whose signatures are difficult to reject. Procedures were devised to measure trace potassium concentrations in the inorganic salt CsI as well as in organic liquid scintillator (LS) with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry...
